New phytosanitary inspection of Tragsa. We renew the phytosanitary passports again

20 March 2021

On January 30-31, 2020 we had a new phytosanitary inspection in the field produced by the Tragsa company of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. It is a control that is done every 6 months to palm Producers and Traders. The purpose of these inspections is to be able to renew phytosanitary passports for another 6 months as an essential requirement to continue selling palm trees.

We have more than 8000 palm trees of different varieties, mainly the Dactylifera and the Canariensis and in the central nursery we have a large number of potted palm trees. In each of these controls the Tragsa technician inspects all our palm trees one by one. If no symptoms of red weevil (Rynchophorus ferrugineus) or of Paysandisia archon are detected then we will renew the phytosanitary passports to continue marketing palm trees for another 6 months, until the next phytosanitary inspection, but if any fresh symptoms of some of these two pests is detected then paralyze the plot or nursery for 2 years.

It is a punishment too severe, for this reason we strive so much in the preventive fight, making monthly spraying to all our palm trees and continuous visual inspections. If we detect any palm tree with symptoms, before eliminating it that would be the easiest way, we try to recover it, even using the fight through endotherapy and in the cases of the Canary palm, also extreme surgery.

As a result of our dedication and effort, year after year we are successfully saving these dangerous inspections and dedicating ourselves to what we like most about the sale and commercialization of palm trees.
